DISCRIT ZIMBABWE

“How can one withhold emotion and be totally impartial to the consequences of their actions as these wreck havoc to millions of lives, rendering the economy of a country useless overnight? Welcome to Chinhoyi, Zimbabwe, 1999 Violence is no new phenomenon to the people of Zimbabwe, in 1999 white farmers and their black workers were the victims in the infamous land invasions which were integral to the regime’s land distribution policy. DISCRIT ZIMBABWE’S center mirrors the violence and desperation of 1999, at Happy Estate farm were Jeff and his wife Anne are trapped in their house by a mob of so called war veterans”.

PROJECT MENTORING

VOICES OF YOUNG AUSTRALIANS / PROJECT RACE [ CMYI ] 2008

Skinny Twin was involved in the Centre for Multicultural Youth issues projects as a mentor working closely with the project officer Caitlin Wilks and the group of young people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities [CALD]. Stand up comedy and performance based workshops were integral to the final performance outcome at the Lithuanian club in North Melbourne attended by more than 180 people. Skinny Twin held the performance workshops with a film clip outcome by the Youth participants from diverse communities.

WORKSHOPS

REFUGEE WEEK 2008: NEW HOPE FOUNDATION CHILDREN'S WORKSHOPS

What do you do with a group of 30 kids, during refugee week? Asked Allison Heseltine the New Hope Foundation coordinator.

SkinnyTwin will hold a series of workshops for kids from emerging communities as part of its Refugee week celebrations at New Hope Foundation , on the 20th of June in Werribee. The outcome of the workshops will be in line with the theme of refugee week and will be filmed, edited and presented to the rest of the NHF extended family. A film clip will be available soon on the website.

SUDANESE/AUSTRALIAN INTEGRATED LEARNING: PERFORMANCE WORKSHOPS

As a follow on to Skinny Twin capacity realization workshops with young SAILERS in 2007, Skinny Twin will be holding a series of workshops at the SAIL campus at Braybrook and Maidstone through out July and August. After the success of ,” I SAW A MONSTER” a scary movie by Sudanese kids at SAIL under the direction of Simon, 2008 promises the premiere of another ground breaking film to be shown at the SAIL anniversary celebrations. The SAIL project is a 2 year partnership with Western edge Youth Arts and this year, a youth from the community will be engaged to work alongside Simon as part of the local solutions for local issues theme toward capacity building.
